At Character Oak we only use ethically sourced timber from sustainable, well-managed forests that are verified by the FSC or PEFC.
All our oak comes from sustainably managed sawmills and plantations; this means that as trees are felled for building use, new oak trees are planted in their place under a programme of continual replanting.
Oak framing has other eco-friendly benefits too, as timber absorbs CO2 as it grows.
Trees take in CO2 from the environment, but as the trees mature their absorption rate decreases.
So as mature trees are felled to use for oak framed buildings and structures, new trees are planted in their place, boosting CO2 absorption.
Oak-framed structures, extensions and garden buildings are also perfect for any climate, as nature’s premium building material is non-toxic and is also highly energy efficient.
